Social Development Evenings:
The Social Development Evenings are held at least once a week with all participants attending. The time allocated for these evenings is one and a half hours.  About 10 - 15 volunteers are brought onto the wing into the community room where they sit around tables and discuss issues that are raised either by the men or volunteers.  There is no selected seating procedure, the participants being encouraged to mix and talk to as many prison volunteers as possible. The volunteers and participants are not encouraged to select specific people to talk to on an ongoing basis as this may discourage other quieter members of the community interacting with the volunteer prison visitors. Although the Social Development evenings are held in an informal setting, all the social interaction is overseen and monitored by programme staff.

Aim:
To create a prison environment that enables participants to develop, mutual respect, and support for themselves and others; to create a valuable environment for social interaction. Also a valuable link is made with the wider community breaking down barriers and prejudice

Objective:
Develop social skills, interpersonal skills and communication skills.
