Twenty-four hour / Seven days a week prison community living

Our aim is to create a learning atmosphere to help prisoners have socially positive lives where they feel safe to look at themselves in a community environment.  They can then consider their primary aims and goals in life, and develop the necessary skills to begin to pursue these aims in preparation for their release into the community, thus reducing recidivism or re-offending rates.
The Kainos Community:
Participants develop life skills growing through 24/7 community living. Learning mutual respect, gaining insights into the way they think and behave as they accept the challenge to change. Kainos staff, prison staff and peers give prisoners feedback and support. Prisoners elect mentors who provide support and stability within the community.

Living in the Community includes:
A learning atmosphere in a social community helps prisoners lead positive lives on release
Social Development Evening
Although not a course, this aims to create a valuable environment for social interaction. Volunteers attend the prison to socialise with the prisoners on a weekly basis

Spur, Dorm and Community Meetings
There are a number of meetings that are held as part of the Challenge to Change Programme.  While they differ in form, purpose and content they share the following goals...
Social development through community living
Social skills development
Provide a safe venue to address problems.

Facilitate prisoners commitment to change.
